A place called happy is meant to be like this really sad, tear-jerking and touching movie, but err, it ends up being annoying with no depth really.😔
The movie so badly intended to have depth, but it’s literally a 1 hour movie that could have been summarised into just an intro or just the first act tbh.😔
The movie opens with Sika Osei (Abena), being stood up by her boyfriend (Mawuli Gavor), while she’s waiting for him to show up for dinner at a restaurant. But then he’s always so busy with work; gives his work more attention than his girlfriend, and so she decided to really end things for good. But then he ends up proposing to her, and she reluctantly accepts because I mean love and hope he would change for real right?
And I looked forward to seeing how that was going to play out.
Except that now we are introduced to another seemingly previously happy family, (Blossom Chukwujekwu and Kiki Omeili) who lost their daughter 5 years prior, and are currently wallowing in sadness and on a brink to divorcing each other.
Deyemi Okanlawon then shows up as the Lawyer friend, who frankly speaking, just had a cameo unnecessary role in the movie but hey.
But anyway, Abena eventually breaks up with her boyfriend, and then fate makes her and Blossom, who travels to Ghana to clear his head, eventually meet.
And the rest of the story, or the whole story really just drags.
I had faith in it from the beginning, but just lost my happy!
Not sure how they managed to drag the movie so much that it ended up running into an hour, because 20 minutes tops, we would really have gotten the point and also gotten to a place called happy!
Watching the movie is almost like watching a silent movie, only that this has scenes with dialogues.
Anyway, sigh, not much to say about this movie tbh, also maybe because it’s a 2015 movie?
So that’s forgivable right?
But at least there’s this memorable quote from the movie, to hold on to:
They say a person just needs 3 things to be happy in this world;
Someone to love
Something to do
Something to hope for
But the world is so big, that we get lost in it”
You should listen to the theme song fpr the movie, titled “Treasure” by Mosa.
New song for your playlist!😉
